WASHINGTON - A Gallup poll surveying US opinion on geopolitics singles out Israel as only foreign nation Americans feel favorably toward and also say that what happens there is vitally important to the US.

Americans remain most favorable towards English-speaking countries – Canada (92 percent view it as mostly favorable), Australia (89 percent) and Great Britain (also 89 percent). Additional countries the majority of Americans view favorably are Japan (82), India (69), Israel (63), Mexico (60), Egypt (60), Russia (53) percent and Jordan (51).

The country viewed as least-favorable by Americans is Iran (9 percent), followed by North Korea (12), Iraq (15), Palestinian Authority (16), Syria (21), Afghanistan (23), Cuba (25), Pakistan (28), Saudi Arabia (35), Venezuela (41) and China (48).

Ratings of France are now at their highest level since the start of the Iraq war and now stand at 57 percent favorable, up three points from 2006. Prewar levels typically stood at 70 percent. Ratings of Germany have now returned to prewar levels (83 percent).

Relavant and less-relevant enemies

Gallup also examined the perceived importance of foreign nations, stacking this data against the figures pertaining to favorability.

The five countries deemed by Americans as the world’s ‘hot spots’ - nations that a majority of Americans view unfavorably and say that what happens in each is “vitally important” to US interests - are Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, and China.

Countries viewed as ‘less relevant enemies’ – unfavorable but not important – are Pakistan (47 percent), Syria (42), Cuba (31) and Venezuela (29).

Of the countries viewed both favorably and important, only Israel was named, with 55 percent of Americans deeming it a ‘vital friend.’

Countries viewed as ‘low-pertinence friends’, favorable but unimportant, are Great Britain (43 percent), Mexico (42), Japan (40), Russia (40), Canada (36) and India (28).

I will never forget standing in formation after the end of our final “hump,” marine-speak for a forced march, at the end of the Crucible in March, 1997. The Crucible is the final challenge during Marine Corps boot camp and is a two-and-a-half day, physically exhausting exercise in which sleep deprivation, scarce food, and a series of obstacles test teamwork and toughness. The formidable nine-mile stretch ended with our ascent up the “Grim Reaper,” a small mountain in the hilly terrain of Camp Pendleton, California. As we stood at attention, the Commanding Officer made his way though our lines, inspecting his troops and giving each of us an eagle, globe, and anchor pin, the mark of our final transition from recruit to Marine. But what I recall most was not the pain and exhaustion that filled every ounce of my trembling body, but the sounds that surrounded me as I stood at attention with eyes forward.

Mixed within the repetitive refrains of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” belting from a massive sound system, were the soft and gentle sobs emanating from numerous newborn Marines. Their cries stood in stark contrast to the so-called “warrior spirit” we had earned and now came to epitomize. While some may claim that these unmanly responses resulted from a patriotic emotional fit or even out of a sense of pride in being called “Marine” for the very first time, I know that for many the moisture streaming down our cheeks represented something much more anguished and heartrending.

What I learned about Marines is that despite the stereotype of the chivalrous knight, wearing dress blues with sword drawn, or the green killing machine that is always “ready to rumble,” the young men and women I encountered instead comprised a cross-section of working-class America. There were neither knights nor machines among us. During my five years in active-duty service, I befriended a recovering meth addict who was still “using,” a young male who had prostituted himself to pay his rent before he signed-up, an El Salvadorian immigrant serving in order to receive a green card, a single mother who could not afford her child’s healthcare needs as a civilian, a gay teenager who entertained our platoon by singing Madonna karaoke in the barracks to the delight of us all, and many of the country’s poor and poorly educated. I came to understand very well what those cries on top of the Grim Reaper expressed. Those teardrops represented hope in the promise of a change in our lives from a world that, for many of us as civilians, seemed utterly hopeless.

Marine Corps boot camp is a thirteen week training regimen unlike any other. According to the USMC’s recruiting website, “Marine Recruits learn to use their intelligence . . . and to live as upstanding moral beings with real purpose.” Yet if teaching intelligence and morals are the stated purpose of its training, the Corps has peculiar way of implementing its pedagogy. In reality, its educational method is based on a planned and structured form of cruelty. I remember my first visit to the “chow-hall” in which three Drill Instructors (DIs), wearing their signature “smoky bear” covers, pounced upon me for having looked at them, screaming that I was a “Nasty Piece of Civilian Shit.” From then on, I learned that you could only look at a DI when instructed to by the command of “Eyeballs!” In addition, recruits could only speak in the third person, thus ridding our vocabulary of the term “I” and divorcing ourselves from our previous civilian identities.

Our emerging group mentality was built upon and reinforced by tearing down and degrading us through a series of regimented and ritualistic exercises in the first phase of boot camp. Despite having an African American and a Latino DI, recruits in my platoon were ridiculed with derogatory language that included racial epithets. But recruits of color were not the only victims, we were all “fags,” “pussies,” and “shitbags.” We survived through a twisted sort of leveling based on what military historian Christian G. Appy calls a “solidarity of the despised.”

We relearned how to execute every activity, including the most personal aspects of our hygiene. While eating, we could only use our right hand while our left had to stay directly on our knee, and our eyes had to stare directly at our food trays. Our bathroom breaks were so brief that three recruits would share a urinal at a time so that the entire platoon of sixty-three recruits could relieve themselves in our minute-and-half time limit. On several occasions, recruits soiled their uniforms during training. Every evening, DIs inspected our boots for proper polish and our belt buckles for satisfactory shine while we stood at attention in our underwear. Then, we would “mount our racks” (bunk beds), lie at attention, and scream all three verses of the Marine Corps hymn at the top of our lungs. While the DIs would proclaim that these inspections were to insure that our bodies had not been injured during training, I suspect that there were ulterior motives as well. These examinations were attempts to indoctrinate us with an emerging military masculinity that is based upon male sexuality linked to respect for the uniform and a fetishization of combat.

After the playing of Taps, lights went out. At which time, a DI would circle around the room and begin moralizing. “One of these days, you’re going to figure out what’s really tough in the world,” he would exclaim. “You think you’ve got it so bad. But in recruit training, you get three meals a day while we tell you when to shit and blink,” he continued. The DI would then lower his voice, “But when you’re out on your own, you’re gonna see what’s hard. You’ll see what tough is when you knock up your old woman. You’ll realize what’s cruel when you get married and find yourself stuck with a fat bitch who just squats out ungrateful kids. You’ll learn what the real world’s about when you’re overseas and your wife back in the states robs you blind and sleeps with your best friend.” The DI’s nightly homiletic speeches, full of an unabashed hatred of women, were part of the second phase of boot camp, the process of rebuilding recruits into Marines.

The process of reconstructing recruits and molding them into future troops is based on building a team that sees itself in opposition to those who are outside of it. After the initial shock of the first phase of training, DIs indoctrinate recruits to dehumanize the enemy in order to train them how to overcome any fear or prejudice against killing. In fact, according to longtime counter-recruitment activist Tod Ensign, the military has deliberately researched how to best design training for how to teach recruits how to kill. Such research was needed because humans are instinctively reluctant to kill. Dr. Dave Grossman disclosed in his work, On Killing, that fewer than 20 percent of U.S. troops fired their weapons in World War II during combat. As a result, the military reformed training standards so that more soldiers would pull their trigger against the enemy. Grossman credits these training modifications for the transformation of the Armed Forces in the Vietnam War in which 90-95 percent of soldiers fired their weapons. These reforms in training were based on teaching recruits how to dehumanize the enemy.

The process of dehumanization is central to military training. During Vietnam, the enemy in Vietnam was simply a “gook,” “dink,” or a “slope.” Today, “rag head” and “sand nigger” are the current racist epithets lodged against Arabs and Muslims. After every command, we would scream, “Kill!” But our call for blood took on particular importance during our physical training, when we learned how to fight with pugil sticks, wooden sticks with padded ends, how to run an obstacle course with fixed bayonets, or how to box and engage in hand-to-hand combat. We were told to imagine the “enemy” in all of our combat training, and it was always implied that the “enemy” was of Middle Eastern descent. “When some rag head comes lurking up from behind, you’re gonna give ‘em ONE,” barked the training DI. We all howled in unison, “Kill!” Likewise, when we charged toward the dummy on an obstacle course with our fixed bayonets, it was clear to all that the lifeless form was Arab.

Even in 1997, we were being brainwashed to accept the coming Iraq War. Abruptly interrupting a class, one of numerous courses we attended on military history, first aid, and survival skills, a Series Chief DI excitedly announced that all training was coming to a halt. We were to be shipped immediately to the Gulf, because Saddam had just fired missiles into Israel. Given that we lived with no knowledge of the outside world, with neither TV nor newspapers, and that we experienced constant high levels of stress and a discombobulating environment, the DI’s false assertion seemed all too believable. After a half-hour panic, we were led out of the auditorium to face the rebuke and scorn of our platoon DIs. It turned out that the interruption was a skit planned to scare us into the realization that we could face war at any moment. The trick certainly had the planned effect on me, as I pondered what the hell I had gotten myself into. I also now realize that we were being indoctrinated with schemes for war in the Middle East. Our hatred of the Arab “other” was crafted from the very beginning of our training through fear and hate.

Almost ten years since I stood on the yellow footprints that greet new recruits at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, I express gratitude for my luck during my enlistment. I was fortunate to have never witnessed a day of combat and was honorably discharged months after 9/11. However, joining the military is like playing Russian Roulette. With wars raging in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the likelihood of military action against Iran, troops in the Corps today are playing with grimmer odds. In these “dirty wars,” troops cannot tell friend from foe, leading to war crimes against a civilian population. Our government is cynically promoting a campaign of lies and deception to justify its illegal actions (with the complicity of both parties in Washington), and our troops are fighting to support regimes that lack popular support and legitimacy.

With over 3,100 U.S. troops now dead and thousands more maimed and crippled, I look back to the other young men I heard sobbing on that sunny wintry morning on top of the Reaper. The reasons we enlisted were as varied as our personal histories. Yet, it is the starkest irony that the hope we collectively expressed for a better life may have indeed cost us our very lives. When one pulls the trigger called “enlistment,” he or she faces the gambling chance of experiencing war, conflicts which inevitably lead to the degradation of the human spirit.

The war crimes committed by U.S. troops in Iraq, such as the brutality exhibited at Mahmoudiya in which soldiers allegedly gang-raped a teen-age Iraqi girl and burned her body to destroy the evidence, are, in fact, part and parcel of all imperialist wars. The USMC’s claim that recruits learn “to live as upstanding moral beings with real purpose” is a sickening ploy aimed to disguise its true objectives. Given the fact that Marines are molded to kill the enemy “other” from TD One (training day) combined with the bestial nature of colonial war, it should come as no surprise that rather than turning “degenerates” into paragons of virtue, the Corps is more likely capable of transforming men into monsters.

And yet as much as these war crimes reveal about the conditions of war, the circumstances facing an occupying force, and the peculiar brand of Marine training, they also reflect a bitter truth about the civilian world in which we live. It speaks volumes that in order for young working-class men and women to gain self-confidence or self-worth, they seek to join an institution that trains them how to destroy, maim, and kill. The desire to become a Marine-as a journey to one’s manhood or as a path to self-improvement-is a stinging indictment of the pathology of our class-ridden world.

Political Correctness: The Cloning of the American Mind is a short but very precise book published back in 1992 by David Thibodaux, Ph.D., English professor, University of South-western Louisiana. Dr. Thibodaux hit it right on the mark. In a relatively few pages (212), he succinctly chronicled the foundations of the disease called “political correctness,” how it will destroy America’s moral foundation, educational excellence in this country and how it can be corrected.

One of the most obvious issues for cloning the American mind is promoting sodomy and other deviant sexual behavior. The American people have been under a barrage of the most sophisticated propaganda and brainwashing techniques ever seen outside Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. One should remember that promoting homosexuality as “normal, natural and healthy” is listed in the top goals of the Communist Party. The underlying agenda is the destruction of a real family (a mother and father) and marriage between one man and one woman. Communism can only exist in a Godless society and that’s why this big push to destroy Christianity in this country and make the word of God something to deride and manipulate for the latest “tolerance” issue. Cloning the American mind to reject all social values that have held this republic true since the Pilgrims landed is the number one goal of political correctness.

America is a predominately Christian nation and Christians seem to be the ones who have fallen into the cesspool of PC when it comes to the issue of sodomites and lesbians. They have been flogged to death with PC jargon, i.e., “tolerance” and “You’re a homophobe.” The big battle over this “tolerance” and “I was born that way” propaganda has split congregations of major religions such as the Presbyterian Church ordaining sexual deviants as bishops. The propaganda used to “change the way Presbyterian faithful think” is laid out here: “Meanwhile, liberal denominations have adopted the findings of most human sexuality researchers and mental health professionals: that homosexuality is morally neutral, as is heterosexuality. Sexual orientation, whether heterosexuality, bisexuality or homosexuality is not chosen, is unchangeable, and is caused largely by genes.”

More hocus pocus not backed up by any credible scientific findings. The Methodist Church is also testing the faith of congregations around the country regarding sodomites and lesbians. Those who believe the word of God have taken a firm stand against this sinful and filthy, chosen life style, but many of that faith have also fallen to the propaganda machine of “tolerance” and “my genes made me do it!” It goes without saying that any Roman Catholic who has become an advocate of sexual deviants knows they aren’t really Catholic; they can’t be according to church doctrine. The Church has condemned sodomy since Almighty God set down his word in the Holy Bible. I’m not talking about the sickening episode this past decade of pedophile priests molesting boys because that’s another column altogether.

Sodomy and lesbian sex has always been against the natural laws of man and woman. Christians know God considers such acts an abomination and no amount of political correctness or propaganda can change the word of God. How to get around that? Begin a well orchestrated propaganda campaign under a toxic concept known as political correctness which began in earnest when AIDS hit the public awareness meter back in 1980. Queers (We’re Queer, We’re Here!) as these sexual deviants have always been identified as, suddenly became “gays” as if there was something “gay” about dying from AIDS. Gradually and with the help of the rancid, co-opted “mainstream” media (including cable), behavior that has always been considered immoral, unnatural and medically dangerous, was now to become “I can’t help it, I was born this way.”

In past columns I have detailed the long, long list of terrible health problems associated with sodomy. In very graphic language, and I’m sorry to use it, Americans need a good dose of what’s under the “tolerance” sheets: sodomites practice sodomy. Men have sex in each other’s rectums where toxic human excrement is stored for elimination. This is their “loving sex.” Sodomites practice “fisting.” This is where one man inserts his fist into another man’s rectum and plays in his feces. Disgusting? Yes, and that’s just one example of their filthy, dirty sexual practices. Not enough emphasis is given to the sexual practices of these deviants because it’s not politically correct and because such images aren’t in keeping with the propaganda of “normal, natural and healthy.”

In order to sell something so toxic, you have to market the product in a way that becomes acceptable to the masses using a lot of positive images. After all, telling youngsters and pre-teens that anal sex can expose you to HIV/AIDS isn’t the picture leaders of the sexual deviant movement want to portray. They want to parade “funny” people like Ellen DeGeneres into your living room to show you how normal lesbians are, just regular Americans. Add a media icon like Oprah selling the propaganda on her show reaching millions of women - mothers - and the advancement of the cause increases in a big way.

Today, if you don’t accept the sexual deviant agenda, you should be put in rehab and if you think I’m kidding, the recent flap over Isaiah Washington calling a cast member from some garbage program called, Grey’s Anatomy, a faggot, should bring things into focus. Fellow cast member, Katherine Heigl, publicly commented that Washington should just shut up his mouth and go to rehab so he can learn to think the right way. That’s Hollywood’s way: you either accept sodomites and lesbians as “born that way,” or you don’t work in that industry except as a potted plant (an extra). Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda, would have been proud of Ms. Heigl: you either think the “right way” or off to the reindoctrination camps; today it’s called rehab. The name calling certainly is uncalled for, but the reaction to this incident is hysteria fostered by political correctness and media pressure.

This issue isn’t about tolerance, it’s about science and that is the bottom line. There isn’t a scintilla of scientific evidence to prove any human is “born that way.” It’s all been debunked. The propaganda war regarding sexual deviants and same sex marriage should be focused on one thing: science. Not tolerance. Not acceptance. Not politically correct. Science. This is the one thing advocates and participants of deviant sexual behavior refuse to discuss or poo-poo away. If you’re born Caucasian, you can’t change your skin color to black at will and visa versa. The same as if you’re born Asian. You can’t simply decide one day to change your race to another race. You are the way God made you. Sodomites and lesbians have left their destructive, preferred life styles. Actress Anne Heche used to have sex with Ellen DeGeneres. Ms. Heche then went on to marry a man, have a child. Unfortunately, she’s getting a divorce, allegedly due to a new relationship, not with a woman, but with a man. So, which way was Ms. Heche born? Another clear example I can give you that it’s a choice and not an “accident” of birth is the candor of WNBA star Sheryl Swoopes a couple of years ago. In an interview following her “coming out.” This was the exchange:

Interviewer: “You have said that you don’t believe you were born gay, which, as you said, may confuse many people. How do you believe you came to be gay?”

SW: “I think there are a lot of people — gays and lesbians — who believe you are born that way. I think there also a lot of people who believe it’s a choice. And, for me, I believe it was a choice. I was at a point in my life where I had gone through a divorce and was not in a relationship, and the choice I made happened to be that I fell in love with another woman. It might confuse some people, and some people may not understand that, but I think in life, no matter what it is that you’re doing, you always have a choice and you make that choice and you have to live with that choice. And it just happened that, you know, my partner and I were really, really good friends, and the more we hung out, the more we did stuff together, my feelings grew stronger and stronger for her, and it got to a point to where I said, “I can’t fight this any more.”

“How do you believe you came to be gay?” How you “came to be gay?” I thought you were born that way….well, maybe, maybe not. Ms. Swoopes made the choice of embracing sin because she wants to, not because she was born that way. Is she really a lesbian or a product of years of propaganda shoved down her throat in massive doses by the media and special interest groups? How about men and women in prisons who have turned queer? I watched a cable program on this and the female prisoners said they turned to other female prisoners for sex because of loneliness. The male prisoners did it with each other just for the sex, not because they were born that way. I guess they’re not “real” lesbians and sodomites.

With more sexual deviants allegedly elected to public office, the push for “same sex marriage” will continue to be a top priority. Reject the propaganda of pro-sexual deviant politicians whether in Congress, the White House, the State House or the local school board. Don’t put money into the hands of those in Hollywood who make this issue their number one goal in life. Don’t buy products from companies that promote this filth as normal, natural and healthy because it is a lie. Find another company or do without. Take a stand.

Pushing deviant sexual behavior as somehow part of a “civil rights movement” is simply more brain washing. Until science settles the matter, the propaganda machine will continue trying to shame people into the PC herd and tolerance. One of the biggest mistakes parents in this country have made is to allow this type of well crafted propaganda to hit public school campuses in the form of G.L.S.E.N. (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network). Sodomites and lesbians don’t reproduce so they need to keep recruiting and where else better to accomplish this than public schools. Indoctrinate children and by the time they’re 12 or 13, it’s time to “experiment” to “find their sexuality.” Toxic poison pumped into the heads of the innocent while parents are glued to inane trash like Survivor, Two and a Half Men or non stop sports. Shame on the parents.

Organizations like G.L.S.E.N. will continue to recruit unless the parents of this country demand they are kicked off school campuses along with getting rid of school textbooks full of this propaganda. Children are innocent. They deserve to enjoy their childhood without being bombarded with toxic messages and subtle suggestions they engage in sodomy or lesbian sex to “explore their sexuality” while still in grammar school. Parents all across this country need to organize, attend school board meetings and demand the school district shut down G.L.S.E.N.’s propaganda operations on your child’s school campus. If that doesn’t work, you take it to the state house by the thousands. I know it’s difficult in states like California with a morally bankrupt legislature and governor, His Buffoonery, Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it can be done or pull your precious child out of the public indoctrination centers. One organization I can highly recommend is Campaign for California Families headed up by Randy Thommason. These good people are also fighting the PC fad called “same sex marriage.”

Yes, the cloning of the American mind has been very successful and you can place a great deal of the blame on America’s churches and their lack of standing up for God’s word over the past 50+ years. These 501(c)(3) social houses have failed miserably in standing up to the sexual deviancy crowd. However, you can reject the message, not with hate, but with facts. You can walk away from your church if they promote that which you know is wrong. Silence isn’t always golden.

It seems to me that Americans for at least the past seven years have been stricken with a collective trance such as I have never witnessed in this country in my lifetime. Psychologist, Paul Levy, in his superb article Spiritually Informed Political Activism speaks to the necessity of waking up from the spell and speaking the truth about the criminal insanity that is running our nation and our world. He takes this “waking up” many steps further by the end of his article, but for now, I’d like to address the questions: “Why such seemingly impenetrable denial in the American psyche these days? Why are some people almost incapable of awakening?”

On the one hand we can argue that the economic system is arranged in such a manner that people are required to work two or more jobs in order to survive and are overwhelmed with work, family, and keeping their heads above water. In which case, who has time to read alternative media, research current events, or even read a book? We can also attribute the societal stupor to the remarkable job of dumbing-down that American, so-called, education has done in the past two decades so that the current generation can barely read, let alone, concentrate long enough to engage with even the most basic works on current issues.

But what if there were something even more fundamental and more human at the root of the collective coma that inflicts American society? What if “my government” in some part of my psyche, has come to represent “my family”? What if it’s easier to walk around in glassy-eyed roboticism than feel the pain resulting from comprehending at the deepest level what my government has become? What if recognizing that I live in an empire that is making war on me as well as my neighbors and the rest of the world is too reminiscent of the family I come from?

Dysfunctional Government/ Dysfunctional Family

So what might be some similarities between my dysfunctional government and my dysfunctional family?

First, a family’s job is to protect the kid. Maybe it doesn’t always pay enough attention to the kid and isn’t always there for him when he needs it, but the family doesn’t target him as an enemy. When the chips were down, they are the kid’s ultimate ally. If I look at what my government is actually doing, I will have to own that it has become my enemy, and that I am its enemy as well—that my safety is the last of its concerns, and that Homeland Security isn’t about protecting me but about waiting in the wings to implement martial law or confine me to a forced labor camp for not paying my debts. Furthermore, a healthy family provides basic necessities for a child and doesn’t take food out of her mouth. Yet what we have witnessed in the last seven years is all-out warfare not only on the indigent, which really has not changed since the Great Depression, but a concerted effort to obliterate the middle class in America. The daunting, inevitable realities of Peak Oil, global warming, and worldwide recession are likely to make all of that much worse.

As agribusiness is allowed to genetically modify foods and ultimately patent all forms of life , as Congressmen introduce legislation to gut all state safety laws that conflict with toothless federal safety laws, as pollution is in the process of annihilating the human race and the ecosystems, as nearly 50 million Americans endure illness without health insurance, as big pharma insists on medicating everything that moves, as every semblance of privacy and individual civil liberties guaranteed by the Constitution are shredded—your government, my government is indeed eating the chosen people. Its sole intent at this point in history is to devour its citizens and anything that threatens to obstruct its voracious expansion of empire.

Well, OK, but even if my government/family isn’t my ally, at least there is the rule of law which keeps things from decompensating into utter chaos, right? The best answer to this question comes from former insiders—people who have worked within the centralized systems of law enforcement, finance, the media, and intelligence for example. Mike Ruppert and Celerino Castillo will tell you that the United States government has gone and continues to go to extraordinary extremes to bring illegal drugs into the country. Former San Jose Mercury journalist, Gary Webb , told us in great detail how such operations worked during Iran-Contra. Catherine Austin Fitts has written extensively about her experience in finance and government and has specifically addressed the myth of the rule of law in relation to some $4 trillion dollars currently missing from the U.S. government and how narco dollars are laundered through the U.S. stock market.

America’s Love Affair With The Mob

Curious, isn’t it, how fascinated Americans seems to have become with organized crime? How many seasons did they live for their weekly “Sopranos” fix, cluelessly unaware of how life imitates the Department of Housing and Urban Development or how HUD imitates the Sopranos? It’s “safe” and somewhat titillating to watch “Godfather” re-runs as a series of mafia hits unfold while Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), who ordered them, piously presides over the baptism of his son. “Gee, I don’t know anyone like that. It’s so “far” from my world,” says the wide-eyed viewer, sucking up the sop of corporate media which has become just one tentacle of the globalist leviathan whose rapacious extremities comprise the other major institutions of our society: education, government, the intelligence community, the military, centralized financial systems, and organized crime. How fortunate for the criminal enterprise that this government has become so surreptitious that its citizens are mesmerized by fictitious mob bosses rather than the murderous racketeers that that actually run the world—the world of most Americans—the one they imagine is hermetically sealed by the “rule of law.”

Recently, it seems that network and cable TV channels have become awash in prison voyeurism. On one night, MSNBC’s “Lockup” airs three solid hours of life behind bars in various state prisons. In ghastly reminiscence of Rome’s “Bread And Circuses”, the antics of tattooed, pierced, bad boys and girls are sensationally displayed—human beings whose incarceration insures that the stocks of Wackenhut and Corrections Corporations of America remain bullish.

Healthy caretakers set limits and model fairness. To open one’s eyes to the reality that the United States government is one of the most corrupt on earth is to risk the anguish of feeling unimaginably violated and used by a government/family (crime family?) which holds only contempt for its citizen/offspring.

You’re As Sick As Your Secrets

 One hallmark of a dysfunctional system is secrecy. The Bush administration has been labeled by some members of the media as the most secretive in the nation’s history.  The mind reels at what information it holds on a plethora of issues that it is not disclosing, but in my opinion, the most egregious are the realities of global warming and Peak Oil—issues of which it has been extremely aware for a very long time and has worked hard to suppress. To be intimately familiar with the disastrous consequences of climate chaos and the end of the age of hydrocarbon energy and do nothing is heinous criminal negligence.

History will indeed record that in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, a small group of ruling elite in the most powerful nation on earth, which consumed the largest amount of hydrocarbon energy on the planet, were well aware of the natural phenomena of global warming and Peak Oil, and knowing full well the catastrophic consequences of those, bunkered their own homes with solar panels and infinite quantities of food and water, yet failed to disclose information vital to the health and safety of all life forms worldwide and the ecosystems themselves and intransigently rebuffed all attempts to create viable solutions to issues which ignored and neglected, inevitably result in cataclysm.

Any caring parent, aware that a tornado was approaching and about to obliterate his/her home and family, would inform the children as quickly as possible, immediately gather them, and take them to a safe location. To move oneself to safety and leave one’s children fending for themselves is nothing less than criminal neglect, indeed manslaughter. But the “children” (citizens) of America who may have some inkling of energy depletion and climate chaos and their consequences, blithely assume that the election of a new “mommy” or “daddy” president in 2008 will make everything “all better.” Like so many neglected children placed in foster homes, those citizens may get a new “parent” in 2008, but it will be another neglectful one, equally invested in guarding the secret that catastrophe is rapidly approaching—equally committed to his/her own political and economic well-being at the expense of the innocents.

Don’t Go There

I am convinced that one’s personal family history plays heavily in how deeply one can look into the black maw of evil that now runs this nation. As I have stated in earlier writings, I have repeatedly encountered hundreds of individuals who simply cannot assimilate, let alone investigate, the voluminous research regarding September 11, 2001. Frequently, they confess that they simply do not want to know that their government orchestrated the attacks that murdered 3,000 people in one day. They freely admit that they cannot bear the possibility that their government annihilated its own citizens, nor can they tolerate the sense of powerless they feel in relation to that possibility. Some individuals will never be able to dig deeper than the official story; others will be able to do so, but slowly, gradually, as the layers of their psyche absorb the anomalies that not only linger, but grow more blatantly incongruous with every passing day.

Mommy And Daddy And The National Melodrama

True to his scathing cynicism, James Howard Kuntsler in, Mommy And Daddy, says that “Politics is the way we work out our collective national psychology,” and that “American politics have fallen into a gothic family melodrama, and the theme is the same one being played out on the micro level all over the country: failed parenting.” Kuntsler asserts that the Republicans have made themselves into the Daddy Party, while the Democrats have become the Mommy Party. The Daddy Party is a stern, rigid taskmaster, while the Mommy Party wants everyone to feel good and wants all outcomes to be fair.

While I don’t agree with everything in his article, I do agree with Kuntsler’s projection that as the Daddy Party becomes more of a terminal failure, more eyes focus on the Mommy Party and its dazzling “supermom”, Hillary, who will most certainly persist in keeping the family secrets and as Kuntsler says, “keep the corporate flywheels spinning, and even look after the family’s security from the thugs coming into the ‘hood’.”

Allowing oneself to enter the deeper layers of history and current events is to open oneself to transformation in the depths of one’s own psyche. I believe that on some level, we all know this, and our readiness to engage or not engage with realities in the external world, which may alter the internal, calibrates our individual degrees of denial.

Carl Jung once said that human beings cannot bear too much reality. We prefer to assume that our government is incompetent, inept, and wasteful because it is not as excruciating as the reality that we are its next meal. Each day upon awakening, we have the option of continuing to perpetuate this delusion, or dig deeper. While the incompetent/inept/wasteful fantasy “feels” better, it is ultimately more dis-empowering, for as Larry Clow writes in his fabulous System Breakdown article, “…the thought of a malicious government that’s actively out to manipulate us is an enemy we can fight, which is somewhat more comforting than the alternative—a series of bungling, incompetent institutions that have failed us, and will fail us again, just when we need them the most.” In other words, denial is more soothing, but so is heroin.

Still another way of putting it might be: Ignorance is bliss—until it kills you.

Who’s Warning About The Hate Bill?

The federal “anti-hate” bill, HR 254, is stealth legislation at its most devious. Its language deceives all but the most suspicious and informed. Maybe this helps explain why evangelical watchdog organizations do little or nothing to sound the alarm, even though the hate bill has been in the House of Representatives for six weeks!

On ten top conservative websites, I found no mention of the David Ray Hate Crimes Prevention Act (HR 254). I found just one alert on the citizen link page of Dr. Dobson’s Focus on the Family website. When several friends and I called D. James Kennedy’s Coral Ridge Ministries, American Family Association, and Jerry Falwell Ministries, they promised to research the hate bill immediately.

But this legislation is so disarmingly worded that even Christians and conservatives contact me to ask, “This bill just wants federal power to prosecute bias-motivated violent crimes in the states-what’s wrong with that?”

There’s plenty wrong with that!

What’s the Threat?

The Constitution does not grant federal government the police state privilege of intervention in local law enforcement. Unless the government finds evidence of slavery in the states, jury tampering, voter fraud, or crimes involving interstate commerce (where jurisdiction is unclear), the Constitution’s message to the federal government is blunt and emphatic: “Butt out of local law enforcement!”

But HR 254 gives the government the right to do what the Constitution forbids. Because five states do not have hate laws, this bill says the government has no choice but to “enhance federal enforcement of hate crimes” and “increase the number of [federal] personnel to prevent and respond to alleged violations [of hate crimes in the states]” (Introductory Statement of Purpose and Sec. 7). HR 254 asserts hate crimes and lack of effective countermeasures on the state level is a “serious national problem” necessitating federal intervention (Sec. 2[1])

The hate bill strains to find any pretext whereby a federal hate crimes bureaucracy can take over local law enforcement. Its arguments toward this end are so absurd they insult the reader’s intelligence.

Sneaking Around the Constitution

In order to evade the Constitution’s clear limitations on federal intervention in law enforcement, HR 254 alleges that hate crimes are actually slavery! “Violence motivated by bias is a relic of slavery that can constitute badges and incidents of slavery.” (Sec. 2,

HR 254’s second absurd ruse is that hate criminals affect interstate commerce, by terrorizing their victims into traveling across state lines - or not. In the latter case such victims may be impeded in purchasing many products imported or exported across state lines, which adversely affects state economies. Also, since weapons of hate violence may have been imported from out of state or traveled across state boundaries, the government is entitled to intervene in “crimes involving interstate commerce.”

Considering the pervasive influence of interstate commerce upon our lives, how often can the government meddle in local hate crimes enforcement? Any time. In fact, this ridiculous argument could be used to justify federal intervention in a crime of any kind, since any crime victim might be scared into different spending or traveling choices.

Frighteningly, HR 254 says its goal is to “prevent and respond to alleged violations” of federal hate crimes laws. This means the government does not even have to wait until a hate crime has been committed but may act preemptively to “prevent” crime.

Further, penalties for violation of federal anti-hate law can be extremely severe, even tripling the normal penalties. 1 For example, what if a man calls a woman “bitch” (evidence of bias motivation against woman, a federally protected group under HR 254) and attempts to rape her, but fails. If convicted of this assault, he could be sentenced to prison for the rest of his life. (Sec. 4[B][B,ii]).

HR 254 Shatters Civil Rights

America’s justice system requires proof of physical tangible damage before an arrest can be made. Our English system of law evolved over at least 3500 years from both biblical and Roman legal precedent.

HR 254 is not based on this foundation. It seeks to establish a different “bias motivation” justice system, which will be defined in courts by judges, as has happened in Canada over the past 36 years. Closely advised and pressured by ADL, 2 these federal and local (and mostly liberal) judges will establish legal precedents-precedents that protect groups such as homosexuals not only from physical bias-motivated violence but also from “verbal violence.” This will include the “hate speech” of Bible-believing evangelical Christians. This is exactly what has occurred in Canada and the many European nations who accepted hate laws’ Orwellian chains.

HR 254 thus does more than violate states’ rights in law enforcement. It also leads inexorably to an end of free speech!

We Need You Now

The powerful Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith is determined to pass the hate bill in their Democrat-controlled Congress. ADL has vowed it will never give up until a federal hate crimes bureaucracy, like it established in Canada, shackles the United States. ADL has weathered six rejections of their hate bill by Congress since 1998. Their tenacity doesn’t come from concern for the emotions or safety of homosexuals. ADL is using the powerful homosexual lobby as a tool to pass a law that will ultimately make it a hate crime, punishable by prison or deportation to Israel, to criticize Zionism or matters Jewish. David Irving, like Galileo, Victim of ‘Thought Crimes’ Inquisition)

I never thought I would see the day when legislation so enormously destructive to freedom would be virtually unopposed by the religious right. 3 Incredibly, the many thousands of participants with the National Prayer Network, through massive calling and mailing of my hate crime flyer to Congress, have delivered the primary protest against imminent passage of HR 254.

Yet, we desperately need assistance from the vast constituencies of conservative evangelical organizations. These groups claim to protect America and our freedom. Yet they have been virtually oblivious to a very present danger that threatens to wipe away our freedom to fight all other battles. If we allow the hate bill to pass, we will soon have no free speech left with which to protest evils like abortion or the redefinition of marriage. The present silence of Christian/conservative organizations is ensuring their future death.

National Prayer Network can’t win alone. Freedom of speech is America’s lifeblood. It is the precious birthright of all Americans. Many, many more individuals-liberal and conservative, Democrat and Republican, Christian and non-Christian-must help us save this freedom now.

This is the primary text of HR 254, the David Ray Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007. This is a much shorter version of S 1145 which failed passage in the Senate last year. ADL, desperate to pass their hate bill, has deleted many items and is concentrating in this new streamlined version on getting what they want most: establishment of a bias-oriented justice system in American and union of federal and local police powers (creating a police state). With this foundation, ADL can then rely on federal and local judges to expand jurisdiction from violent physical crimes to verbal violence against protected groups.

A BILL

To enhance Federal enforcement of hate crimes, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the `David Ray Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007′ or `David’s Law’.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS.

Congress finds that–

(1) the incidence of violence motivated by the actual or perceived race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or disability of the victim poses a serious national problem;

(2) such violence disrupts the tranquility and safety of communities and is deeply divisive;

(3) existing Federal law is inadequate to address this problem;

(4) such violence affects interstate commerce in many ways, including–

(A) by impeding the movement of members of targeted groups and forcing such members to move across State lines to escape the incidence or risk of such violence; and

(B) by preventing members of targeted groups from purchasing goods and services, obtaining or sustaining employment or participating in other commercial activity;

(5) perpetrators cross State lines to commit such violence;

(6) instrumentalities of interstate commerce are used to facilitate the commission of such violence;

(7) such violence is committed using articles that have traveled in interstate commerce;

(8) violence motivated by bias that is a relic of slavery can constitute badges and incidents of slavery;

(9) although many local jurisdictions have attempted to respond to the challenges posed by such violence, the problem is sufficiently serious, widespread, and interstate in scope to warrant Federal intervention to assist such jurisdictions; and

(10) many States have no laws addressing violence based on the actual or perceived race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or disability, of the victim, while other States have laws that provide only limited protection.

SEC. 3. DEFINITION OF HATE CRIME.

In this Act, the term `hate crime’ has the same meaning as in section 280003(a) of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 (28 U.S.C. 994 note).

SEC. 4. PROHIBITION OF CERTAIN ACTS OF VIOLENCE.

Section 245 of title 18, United States Code, is amended–

(1) by redesignating subsections (c) and (d) as subsections (d) and (e), respectively; and

(2) by inserting after subsection (b) the following:

`(c)(1) Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law, willfully causes bodily injury to any person or, through the use of fire, a firearm, or an explosive device, attempts to cause bodily injury to any person, because of the actual or perceived race, color, religion, or national origin of any person–

`(A) shall be imprisoned not more than 10 years, or fined in accordance with this title, or both; and

`(B) shall be imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or fined in accordance with this title, or both if–

`(i) death results from the acts committed in violation of this paragraph; or

`(ii) the acts committed in violation of this paragraph include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill.

`(2)(A) Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law, in any circumstance described in subparagraph (B), willfully causes bodily injury to any person or, through the use of fire, a firearm, or an explosive device, attempts to cause bodily injury to any person, because of the actual or perceived religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability of any person–

`(i) shall be imprisoned not more than 10 years, or fined in accordance with this title, or both; and

`(ii) shall be imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or fined in accordance with this title, or both, if–

`(I) death results from the acts committed in violation of this paragraph; or

`(II) the acts committed in violation of this paragraph include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill.

`(B) For purposes of subparagraph (A), the circumstances described in this subparagraph are that–

`(i) in connection with the offense, the defendant or the victim travels in interstate or foreign commerce, uses a facility or instrumentality of interstate or foreign commerce, or engages in any activity affecting interstate or foreign commerce; or

`(ii) the offense is in or affects interstate or foreign commerce.’.

SEC. 5. DUTIES OF FEDERAL SENTENCING COMMISSION.

(a) Amendment of Federal Sentencing Guidelines- Pursuant to its authority under section 994 of title 28, United States Code, the United States Sentencing Commission shall study the issue of adult recruitment of juveniles to commit hate crimes and shall, if appropriate, amend the Federal sentencing guidelines to provide sentencing enhancements (in addition to the sentencing enhancement provided for the use of a minor during the commission of an offense) for adult defendants who recruit juveniles to assist in the commission of hate crimes.

(b) Consistency With Other Guidelines- In carrying out this section, the United States Sentencing Commission shall–

(1) ensure that there is reasonable consistency with other Federal sentencing guidelines; and

(2) avoid duplicative punishments for substantially the same offense.

SEC. 6. GRANT PROGRAM.

(a) Authority To Make Grants- The Administrator of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention of the Department of Justice shall make grants, in accordance with such regulations as the Attorney General may prescribe, to State and local programs designed to combat hate crimes committed by juveniles.

(b) Authorization of Appropriations- There are authorized to be appropriated such sums as may be necessary to carry out this section.

SEC. 7. AUTHORIZATION FOR ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL TO ASSIST STATE AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT.

There are authorized to be appropriated to the Department of the Treasury and the Department of Justice, including the Community Relations Service, for fiscal years 2007, 2008, and 2009 such sums as are necessary to increase the number of personnel to prevent and respond to alleged violations of section 245 of title 18, United States Code (as amended by this Act).

During a heated debate in a class I teach on social justice, several US Marines who had done tours in Iraq told me that they had “sacrificed” by “serving” in Iraq so that I could enjoy the freedom to teach in the USA. Parroting their master’s slogan about “fighting over there so we don’t have to fight over here”, these students proudly proclaimed that they terrorized and killed defenseless Iraqis. They intimated that their Arab victims are nothing more to them than collateral damage, incidental to their receipt of some money and an education.

A room full of students listened as a US Marine told of the invasion of Baghdad and Falluja and how he killed innocent Iraqis at a check point. He called them “collateral damage” and said he had followed the “rules”. A Muslim-American student in front of him said “I could slap you but then you would kill me”. A young female Muslim student gasped “I am a freshman; I never thought to hear of this in a class. I feel sick, like I will pass out.”

I knew in that moment that this was what the future of teaching about justice would include: teaching war criminals who sit glaring at me with hatred for daring to speak the truth of their atrocities and who, if paid to, would disappear, torture and kill me. I wondered that night how long I really have in this so called “free” country to teach my students and to be with my children and grandchildren.

The American military and mercenary soldiers who “sacrificed” their lives did not do so for the teacher’s freedom to teach the truth about the so-called war on terror, or any of US history for that matter. They sacrificed their lives, limbs and sanity for money, some education and the thrills of the violence for which they are socially bred. Sacrificing for the “bling and booty” in Iraq or Afghanistan, The Philippines, Grenada, Central America, Mexico, Somalia, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, or any of the other numerous wars and invasions spanning US history as an entity and beginning with their foundational practice of killing the Indians and stealing their land.

Many of the classes that I teach now include students who “served” in the US military and security corporations. There are also many students who intend to join the US military upon completion of a degree because with the degree they get a bigger “sign on” bonus of ten to fifty thousand dollars. Their position is supported by many of the student body, who, vegetating according to the American Plan, believe they should “support their troops”. The excuses that they give for joining or intending to join the US military terrorist training camps are first and foremost motivated by a desire for money. One student proudly said that he is willing to kill for money, a better standard of living and an education. Another student, who had done two tours of duty to the Empire in Iraq, justified killing and torture, citing the importance of staying on top as the world’s number one super power so that his family could have the highest standard of living and unlimited access to the world’s oil supplies.

Yet another soldier-student said that there would always be wars and someone had to do it. The”it” is killing, rape, and plunder for profit. Some of the soldier-students agreed that military terrorism was thrilling. Stopping and killing people at checkpoints in order to maintain a comfortable lifestyle in the USA was worth the risk of being killed or maimed. Little did they know that the very education they would kill for could include a course on social justice in which they would be compelled to examine their motives, beliefs and actions in an evil, illegal, immoral and unjust invasion and occupation of a people who never hurt or harmed them or any of their fellow citizens.

To be fair, in this week’s discussion in class there was some mention that some of the student’s intentions had been honorable at the time that they joined the military. They wanted to “help other people”. A few woman students who want to join the military commented that they would be working to “free and defend” people here and abroad. However, for the most part and by their own admission, personal financial gain was their main focus in signing on. Their bottom line was getting the money and their thrills by joining and belonging to the biggest terrorist organization in the world, the USA.

What appears to trouble the soldier student is that the rhetoric of fighting for freedom and democracy is a lie that cannot blanket the horror and guilt of their terrorism. They do not want to hear that participation in invasion and occupation, murder and pillaging, is logically inconsistent with any legitimate concept of freedom or liberation. They know the greed and programmed lust for violence that motivates them. They expect that if they can make it out alive, they get some money, a comfortable lifestyle and an education. Their plan is to secure the oil, the diamonds, the gold, the water, the guns, the drugs, and the bling for their masters, who they hope will cut them in on the swag. They say that someone has to be on top and they want to be on the side of the strong, not the weak. Robbing Hoods, not Robin Hoods.

And now, here they sit in my course on social justice, terrorist war criminals, wanting high paying “criminal justice” jobs in a university Justice Studies program. They want approval, appreciation and honors for terrorism, torture, and murder. They want a university degree so they can get an even higher salary terrorizing more people around the world with security companies such as Blackwater or Halliburton. They want that appropriately named “sheepskin” so they can join the CIA, FBI, and other police and track down and terrorize US residents here.

These military and mercenary terrorist-students are trained in terrorist training camps all under the USA, funded by American taxpayers. In fact, people under the USA are “sacrificing” their health care and their children’s educations while donating their tax dollars to these terrorist training camps. These terrorist camps train money hungry working class stiffs to murder, steal and plunder for the power hungry US corporate war lords.

There is a saying that “if you do the crime, you do the time”. My response is that “If you do the war crimes, you will do time in hell, whether the hell of war trauma and shock, of diseases such as those caused by depleted uranium, the old-fashioned traditional hell, fire and brimstone assigned to malefactors…or the hell of sitting in a social justice class and discovering what the hell you are in hell for, or are about to be.
